It’s Men’s Health Month!

Happy young man looking at camera and smiling.

It probably is no coincidence that Men’s Health Months occurs at the same time of year we celebrate dads. While the observance, in place since 1994, is more intense during Men’s Health Week, which happens later this month, there are ample reasons to extend our observance by a few weeks. The purpose of Men’s Health Month is to increase our consideration of the various ways in which men can stay healthy. Total wellness is about more than disease prevention, it’s about developing the awareness and practice of those things that promote lifelong vibrancy.

Men face different health concerns than the women in their lives, including risks of hypertension, heart disease, and prostate cancer. The good news about disease prevention is that it primarily involves a healthy lifestyle that includes the consumption of whole foods and avoidance of too many processed foods, sugar, and alcohol. You’d think that this kind of lifestyle might help a man also feel great about his appearance as he ages. This isn’t always the case.

Sometimes We Need Help

Just as men may face some of the same health concerns as women, they also often carry some of the same cosmetic burdens. We are at a point in history when men are more vocal about their desire to look younger and more energized. Men who look younger tend to be perceived as more competitive and productive in the workplace, which can benefit them in terms of ongoing employment and promotions. More importantly, though, men who address their cosmetic concerns report feeling really good about their appearance and generally more confident in their own skin.

It isn’t any easier for men to achieve some of their aesthetic goals as it is for women. Men who have fitness goals often struggle to reach their ideal. Men develop lines and wrinkles and sagging skin and excess fat just like women. In this way, men can benefit from a little help. Dr. David Bogue is an experienced plastic surgeon who is up for the challenge.

Dr. Bogue offers a comprehensive menu of services that address a multitude of concerns. Some of the most popular treatments for men focus on body contouring, including:

  • Liposuction to remove pockets of fat from any part of the body
  • Male breast reduction to sculpt a masculine chest by removing excess fat
  • Abdominoplasty, which can help reveal more sculpted abdominal muscles

Cosmetic treatments for men do not start and stop with body contouring. Many men seek plastic surgery to help reduce the signs of facial aging, such as loose skin and excess fatty tissue on the neck. Lines and wrinkles may also be a concern; fortunately, a concern that is easy to treat.

Whether for Father’s Day or just because, treat the man in your life to enhanced attractiveness. Contact our Boca Raton office at 561-886-1000 to schedule a consultation.
