Intense pulsed light technology rejuvenates your appearance without surgery. This non-invasive procedure uses the energy of light to treat uneven skin color, brown spots, unwanted hair and other problems. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Bogue is proud to offer IPL treatment to his patients in Boca Raton.
What Does IPL Treat?
IPL is known as "photorejuvenation" because it uses pulses of light to treat a variety of issues, including:
- Brown spots
- Age spots
- Broken capillaries
- Unwanted hair
The pulses of light reach beneath the outer layer of your skin to target precise areas. The light energy stimulates your body's healing response, which is the mechanism that treats the skin problems listed above. For hair reduction, several IPL sessions are necessary to penetrate the hair follicle. The root of the hair is damaged, which hinders its growth. Lastly, another application of IPL is the photofacial, which is a series of whole face treatments to even out pigmentation, tighten the skin and provide a more youthful appearance.
Multiple treatments will be required, spaced 3-6 weeks apart. Your first session can usually take place during the same appointment as your consultation.
Intense Pulsed Light Therapy Cost
The pricing for IPL is done on a per treatment basis and starts at $150 per session. Due to the wide variety of conditions treated with IPL, costs vary. During your consultation, Dr. Bogue will assess whether IPL is a good option for you and our staff will provide you with a cost estimate for any procedures recommended by Dr. Bogue.
Your IPL Procedure
Using a special handheld device, Dr. Bogue applies the pulsing light energy evenly across the surface of your skin. The IPL treatment is painless and takes only about 10-15 minutes per session. IPL is similar to laser treatment, but IPL uses a full spectrum of visible light rather than a specific wavelength. The advantage is that Dr. Bogue uses the IPL device to target very specific skin problems with the right intensity and duration of light.
IPL treatment is ideal for people with lighter skin tones because the light energy is absorbed by darker pigments. This is because the contrast between the treatment area and the background skin is more pronounced, thus the result is more pronounced. Similarly, ideal hair removal candidates have dark hair and lighter skin tones. The only way to know if you are a good candidate is to visit Dr. Bogue for a one-on-one consultation.
Two weeks prior to your IPL treatment, stay out of the sun as much as possible and use sunscreen whenever you are out in the sun. Doing so will ensure you get the best possible IPL results.
After your treatment, you may experience redness, flaking and light sensitivity. Most of our patients do not experience any post-treatment pain. Any side effects dissipate in the 2-3 weeks after your session.
