How Long Does BOTOX® Cosmetic Last?

BOTOX Cosmetic generally lasts four to six months. Patients may begin noticing an effect within three to five days, and muscle movement gradually returns as the treatment wears off. Individual duration varies by treatment area, muscle activity, anatomy, and response to treatment.

BOTOX temporarily reduces activity in selected facial muscles. It does not permanently change the muscle, and it does not fill wrinkles caused primarily by volume loss. Dr. Bogue personally evaluates facial movement and treats only the muscles responsible for the unwanted expression lines.

When Does BOTOX Start Working?

The effect may begin within three to five days. The treated muscle gradually stops contracting as strongly, so expression-related lines become less visible. The result may continue to develop over the following days.

A small bump or mild redness may be visible immediately after an injection but usually resolves quickly. The final result should not be judged the moment the appointment ends.

Why Does BOTOX Last Longer for Some Patients?

Several factors can affect how long the result remains noticeable:

  • The strength and activity of the treated muscle
  • The treatment area and injection pattern
  • The patient’s anatomy and facial movement
  • Individual response and metabolism
  • The point at which the patient considers movement noticeable enough to retreat

These variables are why Dr. Bogue does not promise an exact duration for every patient. A result that remains satisfactory for one person may begin to feel diminished sooner or later for another.

How Often Can You Receive BOTOX?

Many patients return approximately two to four times per year, depending on when muscle movement and unwanted lines return. Dr. Bogue recommends timing based on the individual response rather than placing every patient on the same calendar.

Retreatment is not intended to make the face motionless. The goal is to reduce selected unwanted movement while preserving natural facial balance and expression.

Does BOTOX Last the Same in Every Treatment Area?

Duration can vary among the forehead, glabella, and crow’s feet because the muscles differ in size, strength, and frequency of movement. Dr. Bogue treats three priced areas: the forehead, the glabella between the eyebrows—including bunny lines when appropriate—and crow’s feet around the eyes.

What Happens When BOTOX Wears Off?

Muscle activity returns gradually. Expression lines may again become visible as the treated muscles resume their usual movement. The face does not suddenly become worse because treatment ends; it moves back toward its pretreatment pattern.

How Much Does BOTOX Cost?

Dr. Bogue charges $250 per treatment area. The forehead, glabella, and crow’s feet are each one area, and treating all three is $750. The cosmetic consultation and one-week follow-up with an appropriate touch-up in the original area are complimentary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make BOTOX last longer?

No behavior can guarantee a longer result. Following aftercare instructions and returning when unwanted movement becomes noticeable are more useful than trying to predict an exact expiration date.

Will repeated treatment permanently stop the muscle?

No. BOTOX temporarily reduces selected muscle activity. Movement gradually returns as the effect wears off.

When should I schedule BOTOX before an event?

Schedule with enough time for the effect to develop and for any temporary redness, swelling, or bruising to resolve. Dr. Bogue can recommend timing based on the event and whether this is your first treatment.
