When Should You Get JUVÉDERM® Before a Wedding or Trip?

Woman planning JUVÉDERM treatment before a special event

Schedule JUVÉDERM approximately three to four weeks before an important event. This allows temporary swelling or bruising to settle, gives the result time to become easier to evaluate, and leaves room for the complimentary one-week follow-up and limited touch-up when appropriate. First-time filler patients may prefer even more time.

Filler results are visible immediately, but the appearance on the day of injection is not necessarily the final result. Swelling can temporarily make the area look fuller or less even, especially after lip treatment. Bruising, tenderness, firmness, or small irregularities can also occur.

Why Three to Four Weeks Is a Safer Planning Window

Most patients return to ordinary activities immediately, and much of the swelling improves over several days. However, visible bruising or more persistent swelling can occasionally last longer. Scheduling three to four weeks ahead provides a practical buffer without requiring treatment at the last minute.

Dr. Bogue evaluates the result at a complimentary one-week follow-up. In most cases, he reserves approximately 10–15% of the original syringe for a possible touch-up and limited refinement at that visit. The touch-up does not include an additional syringe.

General planning guide

  • Wedding or bridal portraits: at least four weeks before
  • Vacation or weekend trip: approximately three weeks before
  • Reunion, party, or professional photographs: three to four weeks before
  • First filler treatment: consider four to six weeks before

Should You Get Filler Immediately Before an Event?

Last-minute treatment is generally not ideal. Even when the injection is performed correctly, swelling and bruising are normal possibilities and cannot be predicted with certainty. An important event is also not the best time to discover that you prefer a different degree of volume or that another treatment would better address your concern.

Which JUVÉDERM Products Does Dr. Bogue Use?

Dr. Bogue uses JUVÉDERM Ultra XC, Ultra Plus XC, and VOLUMA XC. The appropriate product depends on the treatment area, tissue support needed, and desired result. He treats selected concerns involving the lips, folds around the mouth, and cheeks or midface. He does not use filler for facial scars or under-eye hollows.

How Long Will JUVÉDERM Last?

Duration varies by product, treatment area, and patient. With optimal treatment, JUVÉDERM Ultra XC may last up to one year, Ultra Plus XC up to 18 months, and VOLUMA XC up to two years. Areas with more movement may not retain their result as long.

Because results last many months, treatment does not need to be scheduled immediately before the event. Receiving filler several months earlier can be a sensible choice for an established patient who already knows the product and result they prefer.

How Much Does JUVÉDERM Cost?

JUVÉDERM Ultra XC, Ultra Plus XC, and VOLUMA XC are each $800 per syringe. The cosmetic consultation and one-week follow-up are complimentary. Dr. Bogue personally performs every filler injection, and same-day treatment may be available when he is in the office.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does lip swelling last after JUVÉDERM?

Swelling is often more noticeable in the lips and commonly improves over several days, but individual recovery varies. Allow several weeks before an important event in case swelling or bruising lasts longer than expected.

Can I fly after filler?

Flying does not necessarily prevent treatment, but travel can make follow-up more difficult if swelling, bruising, or an unexpected concern occurs. Schedule treatment early enough to be evaluated before leaving Boca Raton.

Can I exercise after JUVÉDERM?

Avoid strenuous exercise for the remainder of the treatment day. Follow any additional instructions Dr. Bogue provides for the treated area.
