What Procedures Are Included in a Mommy Makeover?
A mommy makeover is customized to the changes each patient wants to address. It commonly combines one breast procedure with abdominal contouring:
- Breast augmentation to restore volume
- Breast lift to improve breast position and shape
- Breast reduction to reduce size and discomfort
- Tummy tuck to remove loose abdominal skin and repair muscle separation
- Liposuction to contour localized areas of excess fat
Not every patient needs every procedure. Dr. Bogue recommends only the combination that addresses the patient’s priorities and can be performed safely. When combining everything would create an excessively long operation or difficult recovery, procedures may be staged.
Who Is a Good Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?
Good candidates are healthy, at a stable weight, and have realistic expectations about surgery, scars, and recovery. Patients should generally be finished having children, fully recovered from pregnancy, and no longer breastfeeding before proceeding.
Because the operation may combine several procedures, Dr. Bogue also considers the patient’s medical history, available help at home, and whether the proposed surgical plan can be completed safely.
Can Mommy Makeover Procedures Be Performed Safely Together?
Combining procedures can provide coordinated results with one recovery, but not every combination should be performed during the same operation. Dr. Bogue considers each patient’s health, the procedures involved, and the anticipated operative time before recommending a combined plan.
All patients receive medical clearance, and procedures are staged when that provides a safer or more manageable recovery. Some patients go home the same day, while others may spend the night depending on the extent and length of surgery.
How Long Is Mommy Makeover Recovery?
The breast and abdominal procedures recover concurrently, so patients do not go through a separate recovery for each operation. Breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, mini tummy tuck, and liposuction generally have shorter, more straightforward recoveries.
A full abdominoplasty has a longer recovery. Removing and tightening the abdominal skin creates tension that requires patients to remain flexed temporarily while walking and sleeping. Muscle repair does not cause the flexed posture, but it can add considerably to pain and make early movement and deep breathing more difficult.
A general recovery timeline is:
- First few days: Rest, take light walks, and have a responsible adult assist with children and household needs.
- Around two weeks: Many patients can return to desk work. Recovery from breast surgery, liposuction, or a mini tummy tuck is usually well advanced, while full-abdominoplasty patients may still walk slightly flexed.
- Weeks three to six: Posture and activity gradually improve. Cardio can resume when cleared, but lifting and straining remain restricted until approximately six weeks.
- Around three months: Patients who had abdominal muscle repair can generally resume sit-ups and unrestricted core exercise when cleared by Dr. Bogue.

How Much Does a Mommy Makeover Cost?
Mommy makeovers are larger operations involving multiple procedures, so they generally cost more than an individual breast or body-contouring procedure. However, combining procedures can provide some savings compared with performing them separately because certain anesthesia and operating-room fees are shared.
The final cost depends on the procedures selected, their complexity, and the anticipated operative time.
