Your face is one of the first places you may notice the signs of aging. When you gaze in the mirror, do you pull back your skin with your fingertips to see how you look with a lifted and tighter appearance?
If that's the case, you may be a great candidate for a facelift performed by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Bogue. This type of facial surgery restores a more youthful appearance by tightening the internal tissues beneath your skin.
What Does a Facelift Accomplish?
Facelift surgery addresses several signs of aging in one procedure:
- Sagging skin of the cheeks
- Deep creases around your nose and mouth
- Hollowing of the cheeks caused by descending fat
- Jowling of the lower face
- Loss of jawline definition
Facial changes like those listed above are a common result of aging. A facelift restores the youthful position of your facial contours while removing excess skin.
The Facelift Procedure
Most likely, if you are considering a facelift, you probably want to avoid a pulled, windswept look that was common of facelifts of the past. Dr. Bogue creates youthful facial contours with facelift surgery, providing results that are effective but natural. He does so by tightening loose internal tissues, not simply pulling back your skin. In the hands of an experienced plastic surgeon like Dr. Bogue, your facelift results will make you look younger, not pulled.
By tightening the underlying structures of your face, Dr. Bogue improves multiple facial areas and corrects jowls, descending cheeks and facial creases. The skin is then re-draped over the new, youthful facial contour. Excess skin is removed via an incision that is hidden around your ears.
Depending on the surgical approach you choose, you may undergo a necklift or eyelid surgery at the same time as your facelift. These additional procedures can create a harmonious rejuvenation effect so that your eyes and neck do not give away your age while your face looks younger.
Cost of Facelift Surgery by Dr. Bogue

Questions about Facelift Surgery
Q: How does a facelift work?
A: A facelift tightens the deeper tissues internally and removes excessive skin from an incision in front of and behind the ear. This procedure improves the deep creases around the mouth and the sagging jowls. Often a facelift is combined with eyelid lifts, fillers, BOTOX® or a necklift for comprehensive rejuvenation.
Q: How long is the facelift recovery?
A: In general, the recovery for a facelift is predictable. The most common symptom is swelling, which is prominent in the first few weeks following the procedure. It can take several months for this swelling to completely resolve. Most patients feel comfortable being in public after 1 to 2 weeks. Pain is typically mild and is most commonly at the incision sites around the ear.
Q: Will a facelift make me look 10 years younger?
A: A facelift does not reverse the clock. Dr. Bogue describes the results of a facelift as making you look better for your age. For instance, if a patient says, "I look old for 62," then a facelift may make that same patient say "I look young for 62."
Q: How long does a facelift last?
A: The longevity of the results depends on many factors, such as sun exposure, genetics, weight fluctuations and age at the time of surgery. Unfortunately, there is no hard rule as to how long it may last, but many patients are happy with their results for as long as 10 to 15 years after surgery. Others may be looking for a "touch up" or revision facelift after 5 years.
