As the holidays approach many people have time off from school or take time off from work to spend with their families. While this time of year can be busy with holiday parties, shopping for gifts, and spending time with loved ones, it can also be a time to recover from a body contouring procedure like liposuction.
At our Boca Raton office, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Bogue offers many body contouring procedures to help individuals look and feel their best. One of the most popular, and one he has extensive experience performing, is the liposuction procedure.
For many people, having small deposits of excess fat that don’t respond to diet and exercise is a source of concern and even embarrassment. With liposuction, we can safely and effectively eliminate stubborn pockets of fat around the body to help your figure have the toned and trim shape you desire.
Liposuction can help address excess fat in areas of the body including:
- Breasts or chest
- Abdomen and waist
- Love handles
- Thighs, hips, and knees
- Buttocks and back
- Neck
- Upper arms
The important thing to remember about liposuction is that it’s not a weight loss solution. Liposuction is best for those who are at or near their ideal weight but have small areas of fat around their body that stubbornly won’t go away. If you’re overweight it’s recommended to trim down to a healthy weight before considering this procedure.
If you decide that liposuction is the option for you, it’s important to plan out everything that is involved. Since this is a surgical procedure, having an understanding of what’s involved and having a plan for your recovery is paramount to a successful procedure and to maximize your results.
The following is a general outline of what you can expect if you decide to undergo liposuction surgery:
- Consultation:Â You’ll begin the process by meeting with Dr. Bogue for an in-depth consultation about your concerns and goals for the procedure. During this time, he’ll evaluate your current and past medical history to make sure you’re healthy enough for the procedure.
- Cost: Once it’s determined that you’re a candidate for the procedure, we’ll go over the cost of the procedure with you. The cost of liposuction will be determined based on the amount of liposuction performed. This means that the cost is variable from person to person and is adjusted based on your specific needs. After your consultation, our staff will present you with a quote that includes surgical fees, anesthesia fees, hospital fees and garment costs. We also have financing options for those who qualify.
- Procedure:Â The liposuction procedure is fairly straightforward. Dr. Bogue will first inject a tumescent liquid into the areas to be treated. This fluid helps alleviate pain during the fat removal process and also aids in the recovery process. The fat is then removed via a cannula, which is a sophisticated suction device. Multiple cannulas will be used to ensure that the results are smooth and match the contours of your body.
- Recovery:Â Because this is an outpatient surgery, you’ll be able to return home the same day after a short period of rest. Dr. Bogue will give you compression garments which you’ll need to wear for up to six weeks to help keep the new contour and shape of the treated areas. Taking time to rest is extremely important after the procedure and it’s recommended you abstain from any strenuous activities for up to one week. This recovery time may vary per person depending on how many areas were treated.
As you can see, having the liposuction procedure performed during a holiday break can be a beneficial time to allow for maximum recovery. Planning this ahead of time can help you look trim and feel better just in time for spending lots of time with friends and family during the holiday season.
